{JEI} Angels with #thezeliegroup

It’s another week of the JEI Link-Up. JEI stands for Just Enough Info. Every week we answer three questions and you are welcome to join in, either in the comments or by posting your answers on your blog and linking up. You can find recent JEIs at Sweeping Up Joy.

This week our topic is angels. Since returning to the Catholic church I’ve been a bit standoffish about angels. Catholics believe in angels. The mass mentions angels, but I haven’t had much other instruction concerning angels. Oddly, when I think of angels I don’t think of Christianity. I think of all the New Age angel books and devotions. So, this topic has been really interesting for me because I don’t know much at all about angels.

Questions:

1. Naming your Guardian Angel: yea or nay?
2. Have you had any angel experiences?
3. How have you shared about angels with your kids?

Answers:

1. Naming your Guardian Angel: yea or nay?

I looked this up on Catholic Answers. Click through to hear what they have to say. According to them Guardian Angels have names. Since they already have names, we shouldn’t give them names. As for praying to know the name of your angel? I love the stories about people who pray for the names of babies or spouses and get them. I suppose the same thing could happen with a Guardian Angel. I don’t see why it wouldn’t, but apparently, names angels is discouraged.

2. Have you had any angel experiences?

I don’t know that I have had any experiences with angels. I believe in demons, though, so I also believe that there are angels.

3. How have you shared about angels with your kids?

My daughter is five and she hasn’t shown much curiosity about angels. She has this Precious Moments Storybook Bible and it has illustrations of adorable angels. She’s read it and hasn’t asked about angels. Maybe my ambiguous feelings about angels have discouraged discussion.

I was inspired go create a new Pinterest board about angels.

  1. The topic of Angels can seem a little…baffling. I’m grateful for the Catholic children’s books we have, because they were a great introduction for me. 🙂

The Screwtape Letters by C. S. Lewis might be an interesting read. It helped build a framework for me as to how Angels and demons can impact us.
