{JEI} Prayer with #thezeliegroup

This week our JEI Link Up questions are about prayer.

Questions:

1.What are your favorite devotions?
2.Have any of your prayers been answered? Do you have any prayers that you’re glad weren’t answered the way you’d hoped?
3.How do you pray with your kids?

1.What are your favorite devotions?

The rosary is my favourite devotion. I have a love of traditional things that have been around all my life. When I think of the rosary I think of Grandma’s pretty pink glass beads. Also, I’ve had good experiences with the rosary. In many ways it seems to find me. This is my current rosary, I found it in an apartment lobby, seven years before I returned to the church. I started using it, because it was comforting, not because I considered myself Catholic. One thing led to another, and I ended up back at church after 17 years adrift.

2. Have any of your prayers been answered? Do you have any prayers that you’re glad weren’t answered the way you’d hoped?

Yes, I’ve had prayers answered. I thought that they were answered when I was praying them and found out later that they were being answered at that very moment.

There have been things that seemed unfortunate that turned out to be for the best. So, I think that some of my prayers have been answered in ways that were temporarily devastating! I can’t think of a time when I was lucky that a prayer wasn’t answered, but I’m sure if I knew about it I’d be glad.

3. How do you pray with your kids?

When I first started praying with June she was five. In the morning, when we were still sitting in bed, I would say, “Let’s pray that we show each other kindness and love today. Let’s pray that we can learn well and work hard.”

June has no patience for learning prayers. On Sundays and some mornings we go to mass. When we’re at mass she likes to sing. As part of our school day we use God and Me: Devotions for Girls. I also ordered 365 Daily Veggie Devos for Girls for her Christmas stocking.

  1. I love praying with special Rosaries. I have one from my time in Rome that touched many relics and holy places, and one my mom made for my wedding day; those are my favorites.

    • Thanks for dropping in Angela. There is only one little shrine near us. I haven’t seen many relics. I love how rosaries can be so personal and expressive. Our church sells pretty clay tie dye rosaries.
