{JEI} Chores with #thezeliegroup

Today is the Chinese Moon Festival. Visit Miss Panda Chinese for her explanation. I met my husband around this time of year in 2003. One of my dearest memories is walking with him one chilly evening as the sun was getting low, holding hands, through autumn leaves, and setting my foot inside a Chinese grocery for the first time. We bought some of the last mooncakes of the year. We haven’t missed a year since then. I wish we had better access to mooncakes and could get more flavours. My favourite so far were in Ottawa and they were shaped like little bunnies.

This week our JEI Link-Up questions are about chores.

JEI Link-up Chores

1. What chore should you be doing now instead of answering this question?

I’m putting off homeschool lessons and dishes to write this right now, because I don’t have time to do it this evening. Tonight, I am opening a bottle of my favourite local wine, Sou’wester Strawberry, and watching Netflix. I also thought that I would make Chinese food for the moon festival to eat before our cakes, but now I think we’ll just do it on the weekend when there is more time.

2. Do your kids have chores? If yes, what’s your chore system?

June doesn’t have any chores, but we are trying to get her to pick up her toys. She likes the transformation that cleaning brings, but she always complains. I’ve often thought about giving her chores. She loves to help. There just isn’t much to do that is child friendly, in my mind.

3. If someone gifted you a housekeeping service, would you use it?

I don’t know. I have never liked the idea of having a stranger going through my house, being nosy and knocking things over. From what I’ve heard, most housekeeping services only do light cleaning. So, I could do the same myself in an hour or two if I was motivated. What I really need help with is moving things and cleaning under them. My husband hurt his back and I can only handle so much lifting, so we’re a bit stuck that way. I would like to have my carpet cleaned a lot more often, because – five year old. Most cleaning services don’t do anything that involves moving stuff. I was even surprised to hear that you have to pick up your stuff before they get there. Ha! It’s half done then!

  1. It’s tough – I want my kids to be independent and able to handle household tasks by the time they are on their own. And that requires practice. But it. takes. so. long. to. complete. anything. with their help. It’s so much easier to do it myself.
